Every channel on YouTube has an option called a Trailer. If video marketing is an important part of your business and you want to build a decent brand for yourself, create a Trailer video.

 

What Is The Trailer?

It’s simply an option to use any of your existing YouTube videos (or you can create a new one if you prefer) and have this set to autoplay for when a new visitor lands on your channel.

 

The Benefits Of Having A Trailer

Aside from branding purposes, the idea is to get someone to subscribe to your YouTube channel. This works a little bit like a Facebook Fan Page like. When you create new content and upload it your channel, your subscribers will be notified.

This repeat interaction builds brand loyalty and will help you to get targeted views to your new videos.

And you probably know that views are an important factor when it comes to helping your video to rank in both YouTube and in Google!

 

How To Set Up The Trailer Video

Follow these steps:

1. Login to your channel

2. Hover your mouse over the right hand side of your channel. A pencil icon will appear.

 

 

3. Click on the pencil and then select ‘Edit Channel Navigation’ option.

4. Select Enable then click Save.

 

 

5. Then go to your dashboard at the following url: https://www.youtube.com/dashboard?o=U

The dashboard can be accessed in several ways, for example by clicking on Video Manager or clicking on your thumbnail image at the top right hand corner and selecting Creator Studio.

6. Click on ‘View Channel’ under your name.

7. Then select the video that you want to auto play ‘For returning subscribers’ and ‘For new visitors’

 

 

8. To set the channel trailer for people that haven’t yet subscribed, click the ‘For new visitors’ and you’ll be presented with the ‘+ Channel trailer’ option.

9. You’ll be presented with a list of all the videos on your channel. Select the one that you want and click Save.

10. To select the video you want for your returning subscribers, repeat the above step.

By default, the setting for returning subscribers is to show your latest upload but you can amend this to the video of your choice.
